13th-May-2012 08:54 am - On the bandwagon... sort of
Inspired by mandella0021's amazing success and love of hooping (that would be hula-hooping as a form of exercise), I finally got around to buying my first hoop. I also bought one for SR.

Now from all that I've read, and speaking with the instructor who sold me my hoop, the recommendation is the larger size hoops for beginners.

And now I have to ask WHY????? I can't keep the hoop going! I give it a twirl, start moving my hips and down it goes.

I've decided to blog about it in an effort to not get discouraged and stop doing it.

And here I was, expecting to be able to troll Youtube for music videos and hooping videos to hoop to. Instead I need to build up my expertise to be able to keep the hoop going after I let go.
12th-May-2012 10:23 pm - EN's first hair cut
There's a tradition in Judaism to not cut a child's hair until s/he turns 3; the history behind it is we liken our children to trees and just like we don't take fruits from a tree until it's 3 years in the ground, we let our children's hair grow uncut for the first three years. On girls it's a non-event. But for boys, it's a huge thing.

I don't use Scrapbook and I never would, I have lots of other places I can post pictures. Those that are interested can and probably already know where they are. Others are free to ask. But this really isn't how you do business...in ANY country. Shame on you, LiveJournal.

Note - I checked my galleries just now and discovered that every image had been made public. WTF!

I just deleted every image in my galleries. Fuck LJ and the horse it rode in on.

Point of reference, this is IMO something I think is worth getting upset over, rather than silly design changes.

Alright, I am not drunk enough to deal with this, so I'm just going to put out this PSA:

Livejournal Scrapbook is going away. Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.

+ You will no longer have access to your Scrapbook once this goes live.
+ Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different.
+ Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit.
+ Back up your Scrapbook just in case.
+ If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

I created a hashtag on twitter... #grandfetus :)

So last week TC, her husband S and I were supposed to go to her first OB appointment. I schlepped into Jerusalem and we went to the appointment.

TC and S went in to talk to the doctor and I waited outside. I knew they'd call me when the exciting part happened - the ultrasound.

First of all, the nurse interrupted the 15 minute consult TWICE to have the doctor take care of other patient issues. I have no idea if he also answered any phone calls.

Then TC and S come out with a look of disappointment. This OB doesn't do ultrasounds (not clear if he even has a machine in his office) and he gave her a referral to get one done.

Now you have to realize something about Israel... the OB/GYNs are ultrasound CRAZY! ALL of them have a machine in their office and are more that happy to use it at every visit.

He didn't even try to dopplar for a heartbeat, which I can somewhat understand. TC was only 12 weeks along and maybe he didn't want to terrify her if he couldn't pick up the baby's heartbeat.

But I mean really, what OB doesn't do an ultrasound on the first visit, especially for a first-time mom and grandmother waiting??

So she had an appointment for a week from today and then I'll hopefully get to see my grandfetus. She'll be 14 weeks so there'll be plenty to see!

That reminds me, she needs to get the paperwork for the Level II ultrasound.

She didn't have a good connection with the OB so we're going to find her a new one. Someone who doesn't allow interruptions and has an ultrasound machine.

Need to update things... I DID find sea bands in Israel. They were 60NIS. They have done nothing for TC or Y, poor girls.

Since TC is now starting her second trimester (give or take), we're telling people. Here's the video of my parents getting the news:

17th-Dec-2011 09:10 pm - Jello-coated popcorn
8 cups popped popcorn
1 cup salted peanuts or cashews
1/4 cup of butter
3 TBS light corn syrup
1/2 cup light brown sugar OR granulated sugar
1 package of Jello gelatin, any flavor, 4oz

Heat the over to 300 degrees. Line a 15x10x1 inch pan with foil or wax paper. Place popcorn and nuts in large bowl.

Heat butter and syrup in a small saucepan over low heat. stir in sugar and gelatin, bring to a boinl on medium heat. Reduce heat to low and gently simmer for 5 minutes. Immediately pour syrup over popcorn, tossing to coat well.

Spread popcornin prepared pan, using two forks to spread evenly. Bake 10 minutes. Cool. Remove from pan and break into small pieces.

Makes about 9 cups.

Note: You can use any variation of flavors and nuts. I made pineapple with toasted coconut in it once, it was pretty good. My favorite is raspberry with peanuts, kind of like a PB&J sandwich.
23rd-Nov-2011 02:14 pm - My poor girls
Both TC and Y are having a terrible time with morning, noon and night sickness.

I've discovered that apparently you can't get sea bands here in Israel for some reason and ordering them online either: they don't ship to Israel, it will take 10-20 days or it will cost about $70...

The good news is I ended up finding my sea bands... a couple days ago I realized that we've moved since I needed the sea bands so they wouldn't have been in my nightstand but they might be in my box... and sure enough, there they were!

It won't do Y any good since I'll be giving them to TC but I think I can make Y a pair...
13th-Nov-2011 03:05 pm - The pukes
TC just called me asking me for my sea bands. Apparently her morning sickness has kicked in. I really hope her morning sickness isn't as bad as mine was.

Unfortunately they sea bands are NOT where I thought they were and I'm not happy about that.

So we'll go to the pharmacy tomorrow and hopefully they'll have. And of course I'm going to have to pay a lot more for them than I did my own pair... boo.
